I love Sonic Blue, but ideally I'd like a colour that is faithful to the year of the bass (Sonic Blue was discontinued in '72) Does anyone know of any resources where I can see the full range of colours available in 1978? In 1980-81, Fender offered a range of colours called the International series. A typical Fender ploy, this was a sneaky way to use up surplus 1978-9 bodies and necks (retaining their production year serial numbers). The colours included Arctic White, Morocco Red, Maui Blue, Monaco Yellow, Capri Orange, Sahara Taupe, and Cathay Ebony. Who's to say your P might not have been one of these? The situation was looking grim, until Skank came along with his 2am authenticity-loophole-finding ways. Sweet. Decisions decisions... Still loving the Sonic Blue, but the Taupe is very 'of the time', and every now and then, I get the urge to go for Capri Orange, with which I think a black scratchplate might be cool. Thanks, and I'll post the finished article upon completion. Edit: Just ran it past Mrs RR and she likes the Capri Orange/White Scratchplate best. risingson Posted June 24, 2011 Share Posted June 24, 2011 I don't know what year Graffiti Yellow came about, I have a feeling it was the early 80's but that was one of my favourite finishes, seldom seen nowadays too. Sonic blue is a great colour though, I think if you intend to keep the bass forever and aren't worried about the resale value then go with whatever you fancy! It's not perfect, but for my first paint job, I'm more than chuffed, almost giddy (bear in mind that this has been my one and only bass for the last ten years). If anyone is playing/attending the Rock n Bike Festival, Leics, look out for my Capri Orange beauty on the main stage, just before A Foreigners' Journey and the pole dancers! I can't tell from the images (I can see one or two silver screws) but I'd go for all black screws in the plate - I'm pretty sure that the Capri Orange basses in the International Series came with black screws. The screws (apart from the pup cover ones) are the originals, so are steel in various stages of tarnishment. I reckon I'll try to get hold of some black ones to complete the look.
