gary mac
Probably the Fender Road Worn Precision that I tried out in Gig-Gear, Harlow. Only tried it cos wanted to see what all the fuss was about re the RWs, and really loved it. Didn`t however, have the money - curses
If that's the same one I played in there, know exactly what you mean. I loved the playability of it but I just can't bring myself to pay for the whole relicing thing. The sound was convincing but not the look. Rich
A gorgeous Pangborn Warlord back in '86. Beautiful bass, stunning sound. Mind you, if i'd bought that, I wouldn't have ended up with my Wal
rmshaw37
Funnily enough, a road worn precision! But from a shop in Nottingham. Didn't have the cash and was looking for a 4, but it was just so beautiful! Was £700 then too..... Ho hum
Ross
Offered a 1970's precision for £300, it belonged to one of my great uncles who'd had it since new, it'd been sat in an attic for years and he wanted shot of it. I was about 13, I had a stockpile of paper round money and could just about afford it. I had no idea how much it was worth at the time, kicking myself. I regret selling my thunderbird, I got a crap price and I got under 2 nights out on the proceeds.
Cosmo Valdemar
When I was at school, there was a little guitar shop up the road where we would frequently 'miss' chosen lessons to go and look round. They had a very early Wal in there, single pickup, scratchplate, wide headstock and everything. It was about £350 and it hung on the wall for years. Yes, I regret that one. tauzero
Hofner violin bass which I could have had for £75. However, I played it, and it was such a pile of sh*t that I didn't buy it. Shame, I could have made a lot of money on that.
ficelles
For sure... that '79 natural finish fretless Fender Precision in Fender hard case I bought new back in '79 (from Andertons) is one I really wish I'd hung on to ficelles
Sorting through some old folders the other day I actually found the receipt for this - a brand new USA fretless P in the Fender case, natural finish, rosewood board, shop price £259 ficelles
bassace
Yes, twice. First time I went up to London to look at a '61 Fender Jazz for under £100 - well, it was a long time ago - and came away with a Gibson EBO because it was easier to play. What a t**t! Second in about 1994 I went to see a guy who had been Howard Jones's bass player who was selling a very nice WAL for not a lot of money. Trouble was I had very bad flu and wasn't in any mood to do a deal. So a bit later I went and spent the money on a starter double bass and have never really played a BG since. So perhaps I don't regret that one too much. Edited June 27, 2011 by bassace
xgsjx
About 5-6 years ago in Vegas I was tempted by a Dingwall Afterburner (not sure if it was a 1, 2 or 3) I played in Ed Romans. It was $2900 (@ £1400 at the time) & there was none in any UK shops (or any in the UK that I'd heard of). I had the spare money, I went to the casino
AndyTravis
a 54 Pink Paisley Jap Reissue Precision - Could of had it for £350 and in about 1998 a (Mutes etc) blue burst Stingray in Cash converters Olham St Manchester, £450.
