*NOW SOLD*

Hello all,

I recently traded my BSR5J Ken Smith for this GB Spitfire, with BC user "thestick". He got is originally from "davebass66" as originally seen here on this thread.

My original aim was to sell the Smith and put the money toward something specific, but in these times it seems gear isn't selling too quick, so I thought I'd give the GB a go.

So I'm now looking to sell or maybe trade this Spitfire.

There are some good pictures on the original FS thread (thanks Dave!) so I won't add any more here for the moment, and I've not got any of my own pictures to post yet anyway!

EDIT for clickable thumbnails of the original pictures

Right, the bass...

35" scale
Neck 42mm at the nut (which is about 1 11/16th inches I think!), and 20mm deep.
66mm/25mm @ the 12th fret and 75mm wide at the 24th fret
Ash body (at least it looks like it to me)
Birdseye maple neck and fingerboard (which looks awesome!)
Quilted maple top.
The bridge allows adjustable string spacing, but currently set to 19mm
GB pickups
Active 18v GB electronics, Vol, Pan, Bass, Mid, Treble and a "bright switch", which seems to boost to top end for extra bite.
Weight: 9lbs 10oz (on my digital kitchen scales)
Comes with the original Hiscox moulded and GB branded case (which is functional, but has seen better days), and 2 scratch plates, a strap and allen key for the truss rod.
The strap studs are schaller type ones that wouldn't be very secure without the strap locks themselves - there aren't any with the bass, but I've got an old set somewhere that I'll include with the bass if I can find them.

(Re. the scratch plates - one is black, the other is tortoiseshell. The scrachplates are not attached by screws, so there are no drill holes in the body of the bass. The tortoise shell one fits very snugly with no adhesive required. It looks like some double sided sticky tape has been required with the black plate.)

Trev "thestick" told me that he had the bass/electronics set up & serviced by Bernie Goodfellow when he got the bass, so everything is working as it should, and it's currently set with quite low action - probably a little too low for my heavy handed playing, but it's good to know that it's possible to set it up like that.

Sound wise, it sounds like a GB. A very modern smooth full sound (very much like a GB Rumour I had a few years back). The B string sounds tremendous, and is proper earthshaking stuff! Very clear fundamental, I can't imagine it gets any better in fact

Condition: this has been a players bass, so it's far from perfect, but it's certainly not been trashed. Mostly finish marks and some dings, which because of the colour of the bass are pretty hard to make out unless you're looking up close. I think I'd struggle make them show in pictures. So, overall, I'd give it a 7.5 to 8 out of 10.

Why am I moving it on? I've not had it long enough to get attached yet! Playability wise and sound wise I can't fault it. However, the neck is more of a C shape than what I'm used to, which is a slightly flatter D shape, and although the narrow neck still makes it a really easy 5er to play, it ain't what I'm used to.

So there you have it! A very nice bass all round, but not pristine so you won't have to worry too much when you gig it

I will consider trades, but they will have to be local. And ideally a sale would be local too. EDIT: that's local to West London or North/South Wales.

Very interested in a NS EUB 5, if anyone has one to trade. Otherwise, trades with cash my way.

Any questions? Please ask! Oh, and the price is in the title...

Thanks
G

getting a few trade offers... I've not thought about it too much really here's a list of what would interest me:

NS CR5 / CR5M EUB (straight trade)
Sadowsky 4 string
Lakland US 5er

An electic g**tar (yep, I said it :) ) (I'm partial to a Fender Strat, or a more modern version of it)

An 4 string 70's style J bass, be it Fender, Lakland DJ or similar

Cort/Elrick RB5 (but not in green)

Lakland 55-02

(not really looking for a P style basses)

that's all I can think of for now, other than straight cash offers are also welcome ;0)

thanks Jamie, that's the second Thumb I've been offered in a trade, and even though I like the sound of the Thumb NT basses, I don't get on with them physically, so I'm afraid it's not for me. Sorry! :)
Cheers
