Metallicat V3.0 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Similar to the previous post about solo arrangements, does anyone have a list of songs that use a 6 string bass. I know all about dream theater but I'm not really to knowledgable about any other bands that use them. Any help much appreciated Cheers D Quote
thedarxide Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Looking at your username, I think "Where the wild things are" uses a 6 string. Well, I think are two notes on the high C somewhere. Quote
bass_ferret Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 (edited) Why should the music for a 6 string be any different to the music for a 5 string (or even a 4 just go down not up)? Edited February 27, 2008 by bass_ferret Quote
Metallicat V3.0 Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 all I meant was songs that use all 6 strings and tuned B-C D Quote
bass_ferret Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Still lost. You are putting the cart before the horse. There is only music - 6 string is what you play it on. If you want to play all the notes play some scales. Its like buying a box of spanners and thinking - what shall I take apart, or getting a ride on mower and wondering what grass to cut. Quote

There are definitely some things which can't be done on 4 but can be done on 6 and even more which can be done on both but are easier to play with extra strings... That said, I can't really think of many non-Dream Theater songs that require 6 strings - the guy from American Head Charge uses one? Your best bet is probably to write a load yourself! Quote
Mike Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Maybe listen to some John Patitucci electric stuff! Quote
queenofthedepths Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 If you fancy a challenge, try Necrophagist! Quote
Metallicat V3.0 Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 I'm slightly scared by that music. I think I'll try it in the middle of the day!! Solar Groove by Myung is the current piece of study! D xx Quote

He certainly uses all the strings in some songs, though
I'm slightly scared by that music
Watch this and it'll scare you no more: http://youtube.com/watch?v=TeSz0sYoYds Quote
d-basser Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 having had a look (as I am looking for 6string stuff too) Necrophagist seems to be tuned down a step which is a pain in the arse (I am already playing around in standard and down 1/2) Quote

That way you can slow it down too... I actually managed to find one (for Only Ash Remains) which is apparently flawless Quote
d-basser Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 (edited) I am using it on guitar pro but for some reason never thought to change the tunning, I got tab for fermented offal discharge, may need to adjust the tempo till i get a 'little' better. where did you get the tab for only ash remains? thats what I am listening to now Edited March 3, 2008 by d-basser Quote
queenofthedepths Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Same place I get everything: 911tabs.com (the Ultimate Guitar Archive links are the best, but there are often alternatives and the search function on 911tabs is better) Quote
d-basser Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 cool cool, I am new to GP so thats useful thanks Quote
