Some People are on Drugs

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty good as regards to used Epiphone prices but some people are either chancers or wired to the moon. Examples:

A standard red or black EB-0 is about £120 new from Thomann. A case is about £65 and a strap would not add anything to the deal - £275 collection only

Another one with no case, selling on behalf of an uncle. Of course you are £210 BIN

Yet another complete with 'Prunes' amp or whatever its called. That's what it looks like - £200 but at least this one will post

A thunderbird this time. £189.72 posted brand new from Thomann. £280 BIN with no postage

An Allen woody Rumblecat this time. Normally £316.78 from Thomann, you can have this used example for only £435

There are still some bargains to be had on Egay. Certainly not as many as there used to be but there ain't half some boneheads.

Maybe I should rename this the 'used basses on Ebay offered for more than they cost new' thread and have it stickied along with Japcrap so we can all point and laugh at these poor misguided individuals

As someone who's owned several of both Korean and Chinese Epiphones, there is no difference. A bit like the people who pay top money for a Boss OC-2 cos its the Japanese one instead of the Taiwanese one when there's not really any difference apart from a sticker, or in the case of the Epiphone, the neck plate

Aren't we choosing to ignore the 'mojo' imparted on these instruments, lovingly cared for and photographed at their best..? Perhaps the seller is a 'star' name, who's mere signature on the receipt would enhance the value (perhaps into 5 figures..!). Could be some bargains here...
Company gets cheap products in Cheap factory A over the years with experience the workmanship gets quite good. Then for economic reasons parent company shifts production to cheap Country B. Lack of experience and the first run of instruments are a bit rough. Over time experience is built up and the products get better. Unfortunately by the that time Internet gossip has took off from the first run and Country A will always be better than Country B.
Although Country B will put together a few instruments as a prover to show that they can do the job, and those instruments will be extremely good. The best Squier Strat I ever played was one of the pre-production models built in Korea IIRC - I think Machines' dad bought it.
