Soliloquy
I tend to wear my basses quite high, it makes playing easier and more comfortable. I want a wide, padded leather one. I struggle to find ones that are short enough though. Can anyone recommend a custom builder of such a product ?
Gareth Hughes
Have a look at Italia straps: http://www.italiastraps.com/guitar-straps-uk.html They do a 4-inch wide one that is VERY comfortable and really helps take the weight off your shoulder. With the adjustable bit in the highest slot and a new hole punched into the top of it, you'd have your chin resting on the bass. And they have a two for one offer on. Bigwan here bought two, one of which is now mine. All in it cost him $85 delivered to his front door.

Badass
I bought a couple form this guy on ebay, and I can't recommend them highly enough. More than can be said for fleabay Straps
odub
I have a harvest strap and a couple of italia straps and I think the harvest has it on quality, though they're both great and the 4 inch italia is really very wide and comfy
KK Jale
Rupert at http://www.bearstraps.com/ in Deptford, London will do any of his straps in custom length. They're very traditional - mostly plain one-piece, '60s short pads or buckle adjust types in black or brown, though he does sometimes do one-offs. Ultimate quality, and great prices. A 5.5cm-wide plain leather handmade strap is £24! Totally recommended.
chris_b
You don’t need a new strap! Take the strap you've got, measure where you want the new hole to be, then take it to a shoe repairer and get him to punch a new hole.
Monckyman
+1 on the strapmaker on ebay, I think he`s in Wales. Asked me exactly how I wanted it making, length colour of buckle/leather etc, even if I used straplocks. Was fast delivery and the strap will outlast me or the bass. lozbass
Moody are the most supple and comfortable that I've found (by far). I think Italia are probably very close (if I remember correctly, the husband of the Moody founder set-up Italia after a split). Moodys can go very short indeed - they're very expensive however. American Guitar Center are offering the 4" at £180. You could probably import one from the US for around £120 (depending on shipping and tax). Darkmeteor
In the past I used to never be satisfied with my straps, and I tried a lot, even a comfort strapp, which I found really disappointing... until I tried the minotaur padded leather straps, those are made in Greece, you can buy them on their website.. I bought 2 of them a year ago and I never looked at another strap http://minotaur.gr/
Dusty
Check out 'Randy Straps' by Sarah Rand, www.randystraps.com She will advise on and make any size / style of strap that you want. I recently had one made at 4" wide, and nicely padded and have another two 3" wide straps from her. A step above the top flight Levys straps and made to your own design. 4 Strings
The ebay man, email He'll make whatever you want from nice thick leather for a very reasonable price. I have several from him, only buy from him now and all are magnificent and will last a lifetime.
