bigevilman
I picked up a set off US Jazz pickups a little while back from BC very own Bass Doc, and am finally getting round to fitting them. So at the very same time I'm gonna fit some upgraded pots and maybe even some shielding....i might even go nuts and get a new pickguard! Does anyone have any recommendations for the pots? I don't think they change the sound a great deal, if at all do they?
Al Heeley
No not much, 250k pots are normal for single coil, there is a difference in the ramp when u use 500k pots but you have to have great ears to tell any real difference on a bass. 500k are supposed to be a bit brighter - traditionally used with gibson humbuckers while single coil fender strats traditionally used 250k. icastle
Shielding on a JB is pretty much non existant so you'd definately 'win' a bit of quality by doing that. Changing the pots out for different branded ones of the same value is going to make zero difference. As long as they work ok and don't crackle then it's a pretty pointless exercise - save your money and buy some good quality copper tape instead.
