tickbite Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Is the American Standard sticker on the scratchplate of a Fender something that should be removed? It looks like a sales label to me, but... Quote
chrismuzz Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 (edited) Some do, some don't. I guess having the sticker on might help it retain its value. I'd want to remove it for aesthetic reasons, but I may or may not regret making it less of its 'original' condition. if in doubt, find a way to safely remove it without ripping or crumpling it up, and keep it safe EDIT: or just do what PURPOLARIS said Edited June 29, 2011 by chrismuzz Quote
PURPOLARIS Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Swap the scratchplate and keep the one with the sticker on for future sales. Quote
Al Heeley Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 rip it off, throw it away and start playing!! Quote

ThomBassmonkey Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Why would you keep it on? It's like the fashion to keep stickers and labels on hats, I just don't get it. They're there so that it can be easily identified when it's on a rack with other similar stuff. Once it's out the shop, it's job's done. Quote
fender73 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I vote remove! If the plate ages or fades and you later decide to remove, it'll leave a patch Quote

Al Heeley Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 When I was working in Saudi the guys over there bought a new car and left the plastic on the seats and the export documents stuck to the side windows as a sort of status thing, us euro ex pats scoffed at them - it saved their kids spoiling the seats with dropped chocolate and shwarmas but it looked crazy, you couldn't see out of the side window due to a big sticky doc folder and shipping numbers printed on em. I digress. Quote
Musicman20 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Totally up to you. If you want the guard film on and sticker, leave it on. I think my MIA P still has it on...people have even noticed. Quote

wateroftyne Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I'm amazed people are suggesting you swap the pickguard to preserve the sticker. Really, I am... astonishing. Quote
Clarky Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I too am a bit flabberghasted. Its a sticker fercrissakes! Bet you didn't keep the little plastic sleeves that Fender supply on the tuners to keep the chrome shiny, so why keep a piece of advertising material? I have sold (ahem) "several" virtually brand new Fenders on BC in the past 2-3 years and can assure you that noone asked the whereabouts of the sticker Quote

Personally I've never bought a new Fender and never will, I let other people take the hit on the depreciation. The sticker would never be an issue for me Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 If I saw someone gigging a bass with a stock sticker on it, I'd probably think it was their birthday and they've just unwrapped it, or they've borrowed the bass from a shop. If I was looking a secondhand one the presence of the sticker wouldn't make it worth any more to me. Quote
