glitterskinjim Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 ok. firstly i need to replace the driver in my ampeg svt-15en classic 15" cab. i don't know if i am being really dumb but i can't find a way into the cab to get access to the speaker, my old ashdown grill unsrewed, and my marshall guitar cab back comes off, but the ampeg cab seams to be a sealed unit with no visible joins or screws? is it atall possible? then secondly, the cab is rated at 200watts at 8ohms. with my head being rated at 350watts at 4ohms and 250watts at 8ohms. If i bought a 15" 400w at 4ohms driver would this work ok with the amp? (i'm not planning to add any more cabs, I understand that two 8ohms cabs would equal 4ohms) your help is much appreciated. Dood Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 You should find that the front grill should pop off on the Ampeg cabs, The Speaker is then screwed to the front of the baffle. Lay the cab on its back, remove the screws and lift the speaker away from the hole. Your current speaker rating will probably be fine with your amp head to be honest. Although buying a 400W cone sounds like a great idea and will work.. I suspect you probably wont notice any difference with this particular Ampeg cab box; if you wanted to be critical about how compatible the new speaker is with the cabinet size, you may want to read up on 'Thiele Small' parameters. These parameters in conjunction with the size and design of the cab define the resulting frequency response, amongst other influences. Quote
glitterskinjim Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 pop off the grill - i will have a go at this tonight when i get home. I will let you know how i get on! jim Quote
chris_b Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 The grill is probably a very tight fit but is also held on by small Velcro type patches in each corner. Use a blunt knife in the corners to gently ease the grill away from the baffle board. Quote
glitterskinjim Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 all fixed the grill came of a treat with a blunt butter knife, i also found myself a great amp/electrician in the oxfordshire/bicester area, fixed my broken eq slider same day with a great price. mail me if you want his number! Quote
