A 4 string Shuker Classic Jazz in the making - New pics 20/10/08

Hello All,

Once again I'm another one keeping quiet until the first pictures came through!
It all started when I got a quote from Fender for a one off Masterbuilt jazz bass...and promptly needed a lay down at the cost :)

Through this forum I got educated about all things Shuker so contacted Jon for a comparable quote. He won!

This is my proper old school cut out and paste collage of how it will roughly look:

I'm going for a P bass spec neck on the jazz body,
All black hardware (Badass 3, Hipshot HB1 tuners),
Transparent white swamp ash body (no aging or relicing, that was the only picture I could find!),
Flame maple neck,
SD Classic stack p'ups.

So this morning I got these first pictures:

Rock and indeed Roll.

What do you think?

Will keep this up to date as and when there's some news,
Cheers,
Jon.
Hey Jon,
cool spec!

The flaming on that neck is gorgeous.

Are you going for stack knobs like in your mockup?
What will the controls be?

Cheers,
Eude
Hi Eude,

Thanks for the comp's.
Yes, stack knobs are going on. They are going to be vol/tone for each pickup.

I'm a sucker for flame maple and Jon didn't dissapoint with that piece did he.

Regards,
Jon.

A much anticipated update from Jon.
It seems like forever between updates but when they come through - yowsa!!!

Anyway here we have the swamp ash body with it's poly base coat done.

Looking good if I don't mind saying so!

I think you're right OHM!
It makes me chuckle that there's always a batch of pictures popping up on here at roughly the same time from Mr.S.
Makes sense though as us guys must do his head in with questions, etc!!!

Cheers,
Eude

Beautiful graining. It seems a shame to cover it with paint to be honest but either way his work is certainly very impressive.
Looking good. Nice to see someone bucking the trend with a P neck on a Jazz - its normally the other way round. I see you are in West London - did you get a quote from the West London builder as well?
Hi Bass_Ferret,
I love my P's so thought why not!
Who is the West London builder you refer to?

Hi ednaplate,
That's why I've gone for the trans-white finish so that the grain is still partially visible.

No I didn't get a quote from them.
The rough price guide on the website scared me off!
Nice guys and basses though and the work they done on my P is flawless.

The prices on the Sei website are the prices you pay. OK, it's expensive but it does enable potential customers to price up their instrument.

Every Sei owner gets treated the same, when your spec has been discussed and you have everything you want (and every you don't need) it gets clearly filled out on a price list form. You then get a copy, Sei HQ keeps a copy and that's used as your order.

So, Another few pictures for you all to see...
I am pleased it's looking so good.
Can't wait to get my hands on it and play it through the big amp!!!

Jon did say that some of the grain effect has been lost with the flash but assures me it is looking more pronounced.

And the neck is flaming good too :)

Until the next time,

 • 5 months later...

So, It's been a while and there was a fair amount of time when there was no word from Mr. Shuker (workshop move, etc)
I spoke with him a few times via e-mail but not much more.
Then not long ago I received these:

This REALLY got me going I couldn't wait to collect her...

So today I did!
Got to have a good chat with Jon and have a look at his workshop and try out some of his other wonderful instruments.

I've not long been back but here's a few tasters for you Folks, Enjoy:

For the eagle eyed among you - Apparently the E string was too short ( :) ) to go through the body so is through the bridge, until it needs replacing.

It's been a long wait, but it's here at last.
Will get more pictures and a review on here within time,
Cheers,
Jon.
