BB1100S: MIJ or MIT ?

How would one identify a BB1100S as made in Japan or Taiwan. The one I'm currently considering does not have Made in Japan stamped on the back neck mounting plate.

Apparently the seller bought it new in the 80's and has always assumed it's a Japanese model as he thinks they were only made in Japan in those days. Is this correct ?

I don`t know how to make the distiction, but having had one of these, bought new in the 80s, I seem to think mine was made in Taiwan. Why, I don`t know, but I`m sure it was. So I must have got this from somewhere, such as it actually being on the bass itself, as back then, I certainly wouldn`t have bothered to find that information out from elsewhere.
