I really like the sound of the Marcuss Miller sig Bass but I'm not overly keen on the big black scratchplate that the controls are mounted into, so my question is.........

Is the body routed out under this plate or is it just cosmetic?

Hi mate,
You might find the pickup route for the front p/up may not be as neat as the rear - as its intended to be covered by the scratchplate. I could be wrong, but I know that is the case with some J-basses.

Cheers

I think he means the control plate rather than the pickguard. I would imagine that the preamp is fairly large hence the larger plate, so I don't think you could really remove it..

It looks like this underneath:

A pretty big hole unfortunately.

I had an Auderre fitted to my 5 and the hole wasn't as big as the 4. Crucially however it went round the passive / active switch and that took it past the line where a regular control plate would be.

Thanks for the pics rayfw, thats a mighty big hole! I'm really loving the pic of the Ash Jazz bass_ferret, just the ticket :)
