MatthewKeys Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) It's only just crossed my mind.. I don't think i've ever seen a fretless fender jazz bass with a maple fretboard? Does anyone have one, and what do you think of it? Is there a reason why these don't exist? Edited July 5, 2011 by MatthewKeys Quote
The very first fretless I ever played was a Jazz with a maple board. So long ago (late 70's) I can't remember clearly but it might have been defretted. Can't recall any dot or block inlays though. Quote
muttley Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) I'm sure there was a Fender bass with fretless maple neck posted FS here recently. Could have been a Precision, though. I'll see if I can find the thread. edit: it was a Precision. Sorry. Edited July 5, 2011 by muttley Quote
Ou7shined Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Seems like an opening for the next big Squier phenominon... well at least it would be half original. Quote
MatthewKeys Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Yeah there seems to be a lot more fretless precisions with a maple fingerboard.. But as for jazz, none! Quote

wateroftyne Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Fender-wise, the only 'factory' examples I can think of were a matching special order LPB and CAR pair, that had bound necks and matching headstocks that popped up a while ago. They looked real enough. Lovely. Quote
krazy_olie Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 maple is softer than rosewood, more likely to be damaged by the strings? I think precisions are generally more common with maple necks than jazzes so guess it extrapolates to fretless? Quote
redstriper Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Don't know if this counts - fwd. to 7.15 for bass solo from the wonderful Robbie Gordon: Quote
