I was adjusting the intonation on my new bridge and I have stripped the thread on the G-string saddle. Not sure if it is the screw or saddle but the screw looks in good shape. Gutted! [/quote] If you can get the saddle & screw apart any half-decent metal-worker/engineers should be able to retap it for you for pennies. Take the screw with you too. It'll weaken it a bit so you'll have to be careful from then on, but I reckon you will be anyway. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JTUK Posted July 6, 2011 Share Posted July 6, 2011 Dount it will be the grub screw as that will be a harder metal. As with all these things..it is the quality of the metal that counts. A retap might work..but expect the hole to be bigger.. you might have to get the sadle made up from new.. Looks like a Fender bridge so you may have to look at another bridge. Those parts are all to often prone to "melt" in inexperienced hands.... and the OP has admitted to stripping it whilst setting the intonation ie. while it was under tension. +1 for buying a replacement. [/quote] Or keep the busted one for parts in case it happens again :-) If that's a Wilkinson bridge they arent expensive to replace but it look more like a Hipshot, not cheap. I would have expected it be a bit more durable. Maybe it might be cheaper to buy a Wilkinson and use the bits needed, if they fit. What amazes me is that as someone who sells used cars for a living. If I offered a 7 day no return warranty regardless I would be "inside" by now. Im in the wrong business!
