Musicman20
I have read around that the Squier Classic Vibe frets (vintage) are quite slim and wear fairly fast.... Has anyone else experienced it or is it a load of rubbish?
Grand Wazoo
Did you hear it from this lot, perchance?
Davout
I think they are what's called Medium Jumbo frets. Get some flatwound strrings. They will reduce fret wear. Tony.

Just in case you don't like [s]punctures[/s] flats.
redstriper
They are thin vintage frets as fitted to the old Fenders which came with flats as standard and now also fitted on the American Vintage and Mex Classic series. Rounds will obviously wear them quicker and I suppose they won't last as long as jumbo frets but I wouldn't lose any sleep.

Lfalex v1.1
Even if they do wear more rapidly, would it be an issue? I've never needed a re-fret. In fact, I've never even needed a stone & level... (Edit- I don't own a CV, I was thinking in general terms) When re-fretting, either spec harder frets (stainless steel!!!) or bigger ones that'll take the wear better? Chris2112
Yeah, they're small frets but I've never noticed any wear on the two CV Jazz basses I've had (mind you, one was new and the other nearly new). I wouldn't let it bother you.
redstriper
If you've never played a bass with thin vintage frets, they might surprise you. They make for smoother slides and faster runs - I love them.
dave_bass5
Ive been gigging my CV Jazz neck for over a year now and i dont see any sign of fret ware. To be honest ive never noticed any on any bass ive owned although i do admit to not keeping them for too long in the past. As Steve says, they make a nice difference if you like that sort of thing. The vintage frets were the big selling point for me on the Laklands ive had. At first i didnt notice them on my 55-01 (my first Lakland) but no wonder it was so easy to play. All the ones I have played, play great, and have had a proper fret profile and set up.If they did the CV '60s with a 7.25 inch radius neck, that would be a great real world gigging bass for me, not so expensive so it does matter if its trashed or stolen. I might get one even so, so I can leave my old girls at home for pubs and clubs and what not
Musicman20
Well once my SR P bass sells ill be ordering a CV P in Fiesta Red. Seems like a much nicer backup to have (note, ill probably not refer to it as a backup, itll probably be the main gigged bass!)

Have you thought about one of the Matt Freeman Basses? Pretty much the same as the CV P but in nicer colours.
