You haven't seen the marshall acoustic combos then? Has an xlr connector on the front (complete with its own reverb)

The sure SM58 is pretty much the norm, but there are lots of fake ones on ebay....buyer beware.....

The behringer XM8500 is simply fantastic value, any body rubbishing it is simply on name and not actual testing I imagine...at least you [i]know [/i]its a fake SM58.....

I bought one as a cheap backup mic a few years ago(£17...) for my PA hire and after testing it out straight away purchased another three. Its very well built, solid, sounds surprisingly close to the standard SM58 its based upon, and more importantly I didn't mind putting it out on stages with idiots, if it gets knocked/dented, its just £17 and not £70....

I would heartily recommend it.

For what its worth my mic inventory comprises several SM58's Beta58, beta 57, Audix OM7, Audio Technica drum mics...and three Behringer cheap and cheerful mics. I Often use the Behringers with no hesitation.

I notice that Sound Control are doing Brand X XM5 mics for £15 (and whoever went and got the description for the website obviously didn't connect brain as it's described as a marine antenna). I have no idea how good they are (how helpful is that, eh?).

If you do buy used - unscrew the pop shield - rinse out the bit of foam in hot water and mild disinfectant , chuck the pop shield in the same brew then scrub it with listerine. Seriously, +1 for wot Dave sed. An SM58 will never let you down and a used one will lose precisely zero in value.
I had an AKG D80 waaaay back in the day, it was a great budget mic right up until it got stolen along with the rest of my gear. I sincerely hope it exploded in the face of whoever nicked it.

I had one of those - but it fell apart. I probably still have it in the loft with grille in bits.
