Rob's using Fernandes/MusicMan/ZON bass guitars. It looks his tone is hell sharp, but it's so punchy and heavy at the time, when playing with guitars altogether... Dunno, if he uses sort of OD or something, but it's killer tone, and I'm desperate to find mine as near to Rob's as possible.. Getting Line6 POD XT in weeks, so maybe this one will help me a bit. The only "something about it" tone I get, when I push-jerk strings heavyly, but it would be no good in consistent playing Any ideas about his tone, guys? vegas_hooker Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 (edited) He runs a few of amps for the tone, active EMGs, a few pedals but mainly a lot of years playing and technique behind him. If you can find it, theres a live metallica concert from 2006 at rock AM ring online. Near two hours long from German MTV and his tones are fantastic and hes got a good portion of the mix too. Machines Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Hmm I get something [i]similar[/i] from this Ashdown pedal i've got for review. It may be helped by having the ability to bi-amp or blend in distortion with the original tone of the bass rather than outright distortion. Quote
