Im about to buy my first set of bass strings to go on my p/j bass and i was wondering what you guys would recommend, im thinking of getting either the Ernie Ball Regular Slinky or Hybrid slinky. Or the Rotosound RB50's 50-110 sio what would you guys recommend.

if you are a bit of a newby I wouldn't recommend such a high guage unless you have crazy strong fingers.

normal 45-105 should be fine.

I would also recommend a nickel set, it's personal preference for everyone but personally i can't stand steel because of the coarse feel and excessively bright sound.

D'addario nickels are good value. as are these

After many years of using Rotosound, Elites and D'addarios I recently discovered DR strings. Pricey, yes - but tone to die for! They apparently last a long time too so may not be as expensive in the long term as they seem...

D'Addario fan here and according to my local shop they are more consistent and longer lasting than EBs (that might be hyperbole however). I prefer them because I like the tone and that they match heavier high strings with lighter low strings which seems to lead to a more consistent tone/output level. I use 45/65/80/100 nickel wound EXLs. I've also used Elites in the same gauge and they were pretty good too.

I've recently picked up DR's & Elixers at £27 so not too bad considering the extended lifespan.
