73Jazz Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 In the 80s Ampeg did those SVT Skunkwork reissue heads with a run of 500 pieces. Does anyone got an idea what those heads are worth nowadays? Soundwise, what is the difference to the actual SVT or a 70s SVT? Thanks for your help in advance Quote

73Jazz Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 ..bought one, love one:) feels like coming "home" Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Don't know much about them, but a mate has one here in Belfast that he brought back from LA in the mid-80's. Swears by it for a classic P-Bass and pick tone. Quote
73Jazz Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 yes the tone is really "classic", but it has a loud vent noise. it is caused by the holes in the steel plate, as i learned before. to be honest..this amp always has to be louder than the fan noise:) in comparison to my sunn 300t, i have to say that they are both soundwise neighbours, the sunn is more versatile, has more features like di-out, tube compressor onboard etc, but the skunkwork svt has that tone, that can only be heard out of ampegs..i love that Quote
chris_b Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 They sound fantastic and really are the business on large stages, and when you have roadies. Unfortunately, one of these weighs more than my whole rig! Quote
73Jazz Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 In my oppinion it is worth the weight. i also had lightweight rigs before..i was so happy..walked in the hall smiling, set up my rig smiling. after that i walked out again to help the guitar player with his heavy all tube marshall, not smiling, put it on stage, not smiling. after that i helped the drummer with his heavy drums, not smiling, put them on stage, not smiling. no i take my sunn or svt smiling, put it on stage..smiling;) Quote
