thedarxide
My new 8 string has just arrived, and I've been through Jeremy and Why Go several times, any other songs with prominent 8 string bass lines I can amuse myself with in my lunch break? d-basser
the few times i played an 8 string it amused me more finding which non 8 string songs sounded good on it, I would guess something like Portrait of Tracey would sound ultra schmexy on an

GonzoBass
You might want to look up King's X or Cheap Trick. Although they're both using a 12er, both dUg and Tom have that octave 'twang' you're looking for, usually with a bit of distortion. However, I prefer my Dean Rhapsody 8 more with a bit of chorus: What have you got? PS- ...or if you want to really stretch out a bit? Look up Charlie Hunter. SJA
"changes" by Yes uses an 8 string, but Chris Squire has it tuned differently- 5ths on the D & G, octaves on the E and A (or the other way round- can't remember!)

bnt
I'm very disappointed in you. And I don't handle disappointment... well. edit: maybe I shouldn't assume you know who that bassist was: John Paul Jones, on one of his Manson 8-strings. Flintlock
edit: maybe I shouldn't assume you know who that bassist was: John Paul Jones, on one of his Manson 8-strings.
I really didn't know John Paul Jones used a manson ever, let alone an 8 string. I am, however, a bit of a latecomer to Led Zeppelin, having only just discovered them. And who did that song? queenofthedepths
It's Diamanda Galas (and that's a fantastic album!) I had no idea it was an 8-string - am I just deaf or is it coz I've been listening through laptop speakers?
