I have a BB415 fitted witha John East U-Retro & iy's fantastic - not the most expensive basses, but fabulous value for money in quality & fit.

I also have bought a BB G5A which I'll be picking up tomorrow.

I recently bought a black BB424X and have been very impressed with every aspect of it. The neck is somewhere between a jazz and a P and for me feels just right. Everyone who has played it, inc my teacher and a few others at a recent multi-band charity bash, also seem really impressed and say what a nice bass it is. There is not a massive difference between the 414 and 424, that wine red one for sale on BC looks nice although not the colour you are looking for.

I found prices vary but I also found GAK and DV247 were normally the cheapest but my local did me a deal.

414s are brilliant basses, both in terms of tone and build quality. My own criticsm of them is that you have no option to adjust the blend between the neck and bridge pups. The selector switch is nice, but IMHO it'd be nicer to to be able dial in seperate amounts of volume.

I did wire mine like a Jazz for a bit, but I wasn't too sure it made a great difference to flexibility. Perhaps I should have played around with pot values a bit more, but with either wiring the cool sounds were either both pickups on full or the split neck one alone. Of course this was only given my personal preferences...
