chrisd24 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I have some strings on a bass i bought and i really like the strings but have no idea what they are, they have a blue silk at the head end and a red silk at the ball end.....this is a pretty distinct characteristic so someone must know what they are! Blademan_98 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 There has been a thread about this before: Here Quote
chrisd24 Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 Elites thank you, was just wading through a few other "what strings are these" threads and probably would have took me ten years to find that! Quote
Blademan_98 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 No problem I should be asleep but I just had a really great session on my fretless and I'm still buzzing Quote

I went fretless to get rid of the buzz....... Still, when the neck was out, you couldn't play it past the 7th [s]fret[/s] er position Edited July 26, 2011 by Blademan_98 Quote

Blademan_98 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 It's ok when you are just noodling in a key. It gets harder when you are playing with other muso's (especially if they are NOT tone deaf!). Tonight, I was playing along with some guitar parts I had laid down around a year ago. It sounded ok to me (but I am biased!) Quote
chrisd24 Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 I think when I first got it I made the mistake of trying to play really intricate fretless parts and failing, but now I have realised probably the best thing to do is to play it like a normal bass first just to get used to the (weird) thing! I practice with a tuner to get my ear trained. (sorry this has hijacked your string thread with a fretless discussion!) Quote

Are there any novice/intermediate pieces you would recommend to get me warmed up and help with intonation? Quote
Blademan_98 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 For novice I bought this book: 100 Fretless Bass Workouts It has notation and tab. The CD helps with intonation. After that, it's down to preference. I just started gigging with it and you get better quite quickly because it matters! Quote
