woolf
Hey Guys, I'm selling my beloved '87 JD Thumb, I have been playing my Dolphin almost exclusively for the past year and it's a shame that the Thumb is not getting played, hence the sale. The bass had a complete re-fret in 2006 with Warwick bell brass frets and is therefore playing brilliantly. The bass is in great condition, no scratches or dings anywhere. A great collectors item and a players dream. Fitted with original Bartolini Pick-ups and the original schaller single piece bridge. These JD Thumbs are fairly rare. I would highly recommend that any interested parties come and view the bass in person before buying. I'm looking to achieve around the £900 mark, however may be open to offers and trades. Peaty
Excuse my ignorance but what does the JD stand for. I love that scalloped back to the head stock. Pete

Don't really know anything else about him. Edited March 7, 2008 by woolf

I loved mine the moment I first played it, about 20 years ago. A little lighter than a stock Thumb as well as having a shallower neck.

Legion
I've always loved the look of Warwicks but as soon as I pick one up I hate the neck - just can't seem to get on with them...the Warwick experts here all seem to suggest that the necks on the older ones are much better though. Whereabouts in the country are you? this would have to be one I'd like to try before buying J

Have a bump for a gorgeous bass. Some really nice pictures there. Edited March 19, 2008 by s_u_y_*

paul, the
It is a year older than I, but has aged far more gracefully. Although, I was probably the result of a 10 minute mattress romp rather than the love child of meticulous German craftsmen.
tauzero
I intend to take my JD to the Bass Bash so if anyone starts showing signs of love for it, I'll point them at this thread. Bargain at 800, they were 950 twenty years ago.

Dubs
Beautiful looking bass at a really good price, shame im skint. I've also got a thumb but its a brand new one so slightly different neck and bridge. The old wenge necks do feel amazing though, I've played a lot of Warwicks with bolt on wenge necks and they are nicer than the newer Ovangkol ones although these do still feel much nicer than the vast majority of mass produce bass necks out there. good luck with the sale

The JD is a vastly different instrument to the current Warwicks. One big regret I have is that a 5-string JD went on ebay a year or two ago, and I decided against putting myself into even more debt to get it. I really should have gone with the bigger debt... Macko1968
Always liked Thumbs, especially the original JD model. I find them really uncomfortable to play though, I think it's the top strap button position, seems to push the bass to the left making the first 3 - 4 frets a real stretch. Still, at £800 you won't buy better.
