Schnozzalee
Has anyone seen a relic which looks good in the flesh?? I think the Fender Custom Shop/Masterbuilt stuff looks fine but everything else is just overboard, in need of a paint job or really fake like the roadworn series (despite sounding lovely). I did use to think Nash's/Bravewood's were fantastically accurate till I owned one (again sounded lovely). Look at this dog's dinner: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-axes-fie...=item1c1d55c937 Lot of homespun 'relic'ing' businesses on the rise now

Relicing is something I find utter madness. If you want a guitar that looks 40 years old, buy an unfashionable 40 year old model replace the pickups and you've got a guitar as good as this one at a fraction of the cost. Blademan_98
I like my guitars to look like I have cared for them. Not like I have thrown them around every hotel room on the tour. I'm just not a relic fan (especially artifical). It's funny how when you sell a bass or guitar, if it has a ding then folks try and knock you down. That chap is charging loads for something that is not even a real Strat!
Hobbayne
Somebody on here hit the nail on the head when they were discussing another OTT relicing job similar to that monstrosity, when they said it looks like its been tied to the back of a transit van and bounced down the M1 for 100 miles! BigRedX
The moral of this story then is if you have a bass with more than a couple of dings you should attack it with the sander and angle grinder before trying to sell it.
lanark
Why is it listed as a *strat* and why no pictures of the front face of the headstock??
There's one - and it does appear to say "Fender Stratocaster" on the head. But, let's face it. No guitar is ever going to look like that, no matter how much you chuck it about. It looks ridiculously artificial. Grandad Paul
Then they advertise it as for sale with a "Brand new tweed case". Is that really authentic then, or is that to show you what you could have got if you had a matching guitar. Unbelievable!

bassybill
And why bother with the straploks on a guitar for someone who likes the look of something that's been dropped on to concrete repeatedly?

tom1946
I started gigging in the 60's playing guitar as part of a Seekers tribby group. We played with hundreds of other groups over many years and I have never, ever seen a guitar, bass or any other instrument in that state! I looked after my stuff because I couldn't afford to replace it if it got trashed. There may be the one odd person that doesn't give a toss but even then...... I would not buy a relic instrument, I don't want to look as though I don't care.

Relicing a guitar / bass doesn't render it unplayable, so relicing a case shouldn't make it unusable.

Rick's Fine '52
There are some, good, genuinely authentic looking relic´s out there, although thre are far more bad úns, how about this one, without doubt the worst i´ve seen, some people have genuinly missed the point about what a relic look is supposed to replicate; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squier-Af...=item2c5e604272

I´ll contact the seller, and advise him/her to list it under the correct heading, that being, ´used welding equpiment´and not, musical instruments. An honest error methinks. Off a 2002 Standard Squier this neck is in great condition and has a custom Relic job done by a local luthier. FULLY LOADED!" Fully loaded with what??!? Loaded with mojo? Loaded with frets and a nut? It's just the neck - no tuners, no strings, no body, no sense? (EDIT: I tell a lie, it does come with tuners) It looks awful. The "local luthier" should be ashamed of him or her self. At least they're only asking £60 for the neck though, not £1300 like that ridiculous Strat guy. Edited August 5, 2011 by lanark
