You just get comfortable with you deterity and ablilities and then. . . . . . .

I'm off for a sit on a park bench to contemplate taking up the Kazzoo!!

Yep, and I expect he's still a better player than about 90% of BCers anyway :)

I can buy beer and have sex every night.
...and reach the first fret.

I didn't watch for longer thatn about 20" - just not my thing. This is the internet - if I want to watch people engaging in 'teenage exercise' then surely there are sites that specialise in that sort of thing?

No doubt the kid's got some chops though.
But playing is as much about taste as it is about "chops".
Of course, but how many kids that age have a well-developed sense of musical/performance taste? Having the chops is a good start as the taste (hopefully) develops?

TBH past the first few minutes it wasn't so bad anyway

Nah, I reckon it's good old-fashioned grumpy-old-man healthy cynicism. He's just too cute. We don't like James Blunt either.

What's there to be jealous of? He's playing dull 'smooth jazz' (after the 'fingers caught in the strings' intro) :)

Must admit I didn't watch it all, it's just I haven't slept for a couple of nights and am a bit mischievous with a "red bull and bananas" sugar rush.

Just had a watch. He's very good.
And in all fairness if he gets all the "1st one to E wins" out of his system by the time he's 16, he'll undoubtedly make a fine bassist.

Or they could be into both and be way better off. Anyway,I'd rather listen to the first
video than the kid playing ACDC.

The kid has obviously got chops, but I think we've got to wait a few years yet to see
where he takes it-if he does take it further.

Two salient points (outside of the taste/talent argument)

Where'd he get the bass / pay for strings / pay for lessons (if applicable) There's some sort of advantageous scenario behind his ability.
Will he still be able to do that when he has a considerably larger right thumb. I can lay my thumb parallel to the strings on an instrument with 16.5mm spacing, and cover 3 strings with it. That ought to be useful, but it ain't.
Hope he manages to keep going and enjoy a career in music if that's what he wants in half a decade's time.

Good point.

That instrument is not too big, but defo too heavy for a little growing up boy.

Looks like a sad story behind it like so many child prodigies.

I've read and re-read your post and still not sure I understand what you're saying. :)
