algmusic Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) I'm not really a slap fan (like it very small bites size peices) but Larry is King... I'd say he makes slap truly funky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipjTvRe7-Zg...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1IuD6F3R5I Edited August 5, 2011 by algmusic Quote
Conan Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) I do. The guy is the definition of cool. Kinda... He doesn't really do "subtle" though, does he? Edited August 5, 2011 by Conan Quote
Roland Rock Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Great. I love the way his tone is not at all tinny, and sounds like a bass should. He's one of the very few slappers that I really enjoy listening to. Quote

ped Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011
I prefer his stuff with Betty Davis...
Yeah, excellent stuff!!! Definitely worth listening to Quote
BottomE Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 He's excellent and always comes over well in interviews. There was a recent one on Marlowe DKs you Tube site. Hes thought of as a one trick pony but has a lot of bass playing vesatility in his arsenal. Larry is great. A real character. Quote
crez5150 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Really? I think the stuff that he's recorded on sounds great but any of the live youtube stuff sounds bloody naff..... just sounds like a one of those music shop slappers everyone always goes on about on here Quote
Thunderthumbs Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I also think some of his tone comes from his "downstroke" style of slapping rather than hammering against the fretboard. Quote
davebass66 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I Love that video of Pow....Particularly the little jump steps they do with the hits! amezzin! Quote
grahamd Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Love Larry, one of the originators, with a unique take on the technique. +1 for the Betty Davis and GCS stuff, awesome! Quote
