Fat Rich
Good stuff! Move Me No Mountain was played by Anthony Jackson, along with a few other tracks on the album (Naughty 1980). Well worth getting hold of if you haven't already. Edited August 6, 2011 by Fat Rich

Gareth Hughes
Ah, there's many a morning that's been lifted by the soaring spirit that is 'I'm Every Woman' - with the wonderful Will Lee on bass, and backing vocals. For me, it's one of those songs (and albums) that if it doesn't move you, then you must be dead.
JTUK
Move me...Steve Ferrone, Phil Upchurch, IIRC. Unmistakeably Anthony Jackson though.
risingson
Steve Ferrone was on kit for most of What Cha Gonna Do For Me and Naughty, as was Anthony Jackson on bass... as far as I'm concerned some of the most amazing bass put down on record. Will Lee filled in on a few tunes as well I think.
Gareth Hughes
It's Marcus Miller, Willie Weeks and Mark Stevens filling in the other bass tracks on 'Naughty'. Greg Phillinganes plays keyboard bass on two or three tracks and Abraham Laboriel does one track (maybe two) on 'What Cha Gonna Do For Me'. Pretty sure Will Lee only plays on 'Chaka'. But I could always be wrong, and I'm too damn lazy to pull out the cd covers to check
chardbass
When, when, when oh when will "Chaka Khan" (1982) be released as an individual CD? It was my first real exposure to her albums in the late 80s, and the track Be Bop Medley just blew my head off. If my memory serves me right it's not up there with Naughty and Watcha but still a fantastic album that would evoke so many memories for me. chardbass
Just checked some credits for Naughty- Whitney Houston and Luther on BVs- not too shabby at all eh? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naughty_(Chaka_Khan_album) The budget for the album must have been huge- check out the names on the link (Wiki-ness allowing) The glory days of the session muso. I can remember being blown away by AJ's lines and some of those ridiculous, out-there fills and figures on Naughty and Whatcha but feeling (slightly) relieved to read that he was allowed the time to re-compose and re-record all of his lines (not sure which ones tho)
JTUK
I think I read somewhere that Jackson had unprecedented extra time for his parts. Have to say he made full use of that, as well, but even so, a luxury not often repeated for a studio band. But then looking at the line-up..that must have been some budget as it was pretty much NY's first call all on the same gig. I think Cissy Houston would have been on most tracks as she was a pre-eminent backing vox at that time, and it is also where she ( Whitney) probably got the idea for 'I'm every woman' which made her. I think.

Arif Mardin must have been mad for letting him do it, but if you're that passionate about a project then why not. It's still mind-blowing bass playing though, so intense and harmonically interesting. Both busy session /TV players at that time. Garry Edited August 6, 2011 by lowdown
