Hello,

I'm a professional Bass Player and Teacher based in Birmingham.
Lots of live experience, studied at Birmingham Conservatoire.
For more information about me check out my website www.alexphillipsmusic.com

I cover all aspects of playing from fundamentals to advanced techniques in a multitude of styles. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced player who is stuck in a rut with their playing I can definitely help. Also I think that learning an instrument should be fun and always strive to make sure that my lessons are enjoyable.

What I Offer:
-Electric or Double Bass Lessons
-Any genre, specialise in Jazz, Rock, Funk, Pop.
-Grade Coaching, RGT or Rockschool (Should you wish)
-Specialist Areas - Improvisation, Harmony, Advanced techniques (slapping, tapping etc), sight reading.

I've been very fortunate to have studied and played with some top musicians during my time as a bass player so far and I am keen to pass on the knowledge that I've acquired. I have taught privately for the past 5 years and have had pupils that have gone on to study at places such as the Birmingham Conservatoire.

I teach from my home just south of Birmingham and also travel to students' homes. I currently have a few spaces for new students so if you would like to know more please get in touch, either through basschat or email me directly at [email protected].

Hey there. Just wondering how deep you go into theory with these lessons. I'm interested in getting lessons but want to learn theory along with technique. Also, i'm wondering if you'd travel all the way to the B23 post-code (about 25-30 minutes drive away from Kings Heath) to teach. Thanks!

Hi there,
I try to tailor each lesson to the specific needs of the student, so if theory is something that you want to focus on then that would be absolutely fine. We can go as far into it as you like. When learning theory, I like to teach it in a practical/applied way in order to facilitate your playing and to give you a better understanding.

Travelling to that post code is fine with me :-).
Hope that helps!
Cheers,

Alex

Just thought i'd leave a quick reply here and say that I started with Alex last week and it went better than expected. Had a lot of fun and was really impressed. And as someone who has had a multitude of different music teachers in the past, Alex is definitely one of the best and i'd highly recommend him. :)

Yes - free bump from me too. Alex is my bass teacher and it's always both fun, and worthwhile, with each lesson.

Alex has a very funky groove - relaxed and a great sound - I'm hoping that if I work at it long enough, my tone and timing will come close...

Can't recommend him enough :)
