building a bass

say i wanted to build a bass (not as in from scratch, but to but a body, neck, strings, electronics and stick it all together) what would be good websites for parts i need?

You're on it mate.

Scan the "musically related" part of the FS section and also put up some ads in the "wanted" section.
Ebay, Dangleberry, Axesrus, WD music etc all good too.

precision bass but with a jazz bass neck basically. i completely new to this so i havent really got much idea yet! i'd probably want to use relatively decent pickups etc to make a good giggable bass rather than take it on as a project and end up with something crap that i could've bought the equivalent of in a shop for £200!

You sound like you've got your head screwed on - stick to the above and you'll be fine.

Check out Wizard pickups for something a bit "custom" with a good name and price point.
