sk8
I've gone phaser - flanger - chorus - flanger/chorus and have now decided phasing is where I want to be; I want a phaser again I did I own an EHX nano small stone but moved it on thinking a wanted chorus and finally ended up with a EHX Stereo Electric Mistress which I've now flogged. I've looked around and searched and listened and have ended up with the following list of possibles Mojo Hand Nebula Sub Decay Quasar EHX Polyphase Red Witch Moon Phaser The nebula sounds nice and subtle, as though it would sit well in the mix but the others give me tweak ability to get different sounds. I do like the nebulas plug and play ability as sometimes I just can't be bothered to tweak. I would like something different from the small stone this time. I like the sound and nebula but I don't want to be stuck with just one range of sounds as there will be no chorus, flanger etc on the board so I want the ability to change the sound. I like simplicity but want to take my sound sculpting further. I'll be using it mainly in a praise band setting to add some colour. I liked the small stone sound especially on low settings but want to be able to build on this. Or should I get a Nebula and there say a quasar later? Help, experiences, other options welcome. Thanks in advance
cheddatom
IMHO you don't want a subtle phaser 'cos you'll never hear it on stage. I would also recommending combining the phaser with a little overdrive. I have no experience of the pedals you're looking at though!

ray_6ao7
MXR Phase 90 all the way... i got a 1974 hand wired custom shop and it sounds stupidly amazing...and my bands guitarists use the normal phase 90's which sound rather intense too... Silent Fly
(...) Thanks in advance
sk8, I recommend you the MXR Phase 90 (or a clone). It tends to cut the lower frequencies. In order to fix this you may want to change the input and out capacitors. I don't think there is anything wrong with cross posting, infact in this case it's actually helpful to other people to let them know there is more than an MXR Phase 90 out there. sk8 I'll chat to you on TB

voxpop
I use a Effectrode Phaseomatic with Trex Bass Juice. This pairing gives a wonderful organic Phase with a hint of fuzz at the top end. FANTASIC.
EskimoBassist
Yeah im also really interested in buying a phaser. I would like something quite pronounced if thats any help. I'm looking at an EHX Small Stone, but id like to know, other than the pedal board footprint and the handy 9v negative tip input of the NANO, is there any difference in the sound between the NYC model, the Russian and the NANOs all in production at the moment? Which would you all recommend, baring in mind i dont really want to spend over £50 on one, which could ofcourse rule out the MXR Phase 90. Sorry if that was really wordy! Thanks, Rich

I understand about buying quality equipment but i was under the impression that such EHX pedals were quite nice.
tayste_2000
Well the small stone has no real range to the sound, there isn't a lot you can do with it so if you like it great if you don't hmmmm not so great, bypass can be sucky on the russian ones and I've always noticed hum on the EHX modulation pedals I've tried but this may or may not be a concern for you, if you can pick one up cheap second hand go for it. I've always been a bit of a sucker for the 80's Dod pedals so maybe see if you can find a phaser on ebay.
umph
thats because DOD stuff is awesome ;o but yeah +1 on cheap stuff sounding, well cheap, you get what you pay for really
cheddatom
Cheap stuff doesn't have to sound cheap. It depends what you do with it. I gig with 20 odd cheap pedals and I don't sound cheap, I sound f*ckin' massive! (IMHO)

Kev
my arion stereo flanger is the best iv tried of its type, and it cost me £15 okay iv only tried the gt6b's, the old skool dod and 2 of the boss ones (the bass version and the current one), but i cant imagine id find a more flexible flanger that sounds as good
bassbloke
If you want a cheap, flexible pedal, look at the Akia Intelliphase. they're quite desirable as they're not made any more. CPBass
I tried loads of phasers and ended up with a little old MXR Phase 90, The 100 is excellent too but no better than the 90 IMHO. If its too expensive get a s/h one, youll be glad you did Col
