Good question,here,s my tuppence
Thunderbird-epiphone t-bird pro-it,s active so you can grind it out-black of course
musicman sub-active
both of these are good cause you can have a sneaky slap n pop on them-both are great slappers
P-bass with a hot pick up
Or for a change-Rickenbacker
big watts and a good di pre amp-sansamp or similar or try out a behringer bdi 21 for cheapness to see if you like it.

If it's strictly between a P and J, I'd say go for a jazz and stick some Dimarzio Ultra Jazz in! They're SOOO punchy and powerful, but defined and articulate too. Loads of guts, but they really cut through the mix too.

If you're open to other options, I would go for anything you like the feel of that's loaded with MM humbucker(s).

Try a Sandberg if you get chance........

My, this thread is old. No matter. I used a hohner jack when I played in an industrial rock band ( we never would have used that term to describe ourselves though.) so....a jazz then?!?

Paul Barker of Ministry 90's era I think:

Bassplayer on last year's comeback tour was playing a fenderbird through a marshall head iirc.
