Jono Bolton Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Like nuts and screws? I have a wiring kit coming for my strat and I'm not sure if the pots come with new nuts/screws. I still have the old ones but they're about 6 years old and have naturally gathered a bit of gunk and rust. I've heard of people soaking them in vinegar to help dissolve the muck but does anyone else have experience with doing stuff like this? TBH it sounds like a bit of an old wives tale so I don't know if the vinegar thing works or not. Quote
clauster Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Not sure about the rust (unless its just surface rust) but anything mildly acidic will get rid of general crap - vinegar, cola etc. Clear spirits (Vodka, Gin, surgical spirits). If you try both of the above methods, do not drink the Vodka and coke you'll be left with. Quote
bigjohn Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 WD40 is good. Spray some into a small jar, put your nuts in. As with the vodka - don't drink it after. Quote

Buzz Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Vinegar being the common name for diluted acetic acid, it does alot more stuff than you'd expect. Just don't put it on chips after you've used it. Quote
Jono Bolton Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Excellent, cheers guys! Will have to wait and see if the pots come with nuts or not but I know I have a load of screws that need cleaning. Quote

The tone of this forum is going downhill. I'm off to look at some porn. Quote
