I'm reading his biography at the moment and this is discussed in some detail. There was also a lot of wrangling about whether or not to release it as a single but they felt they couldn't issue it as a 'Beatles' song as it was just Macca (plus George martin's string arrangement of course), so they just tacked it onto the end of the Help! album. jonny-lad Posted August 17, 2011 Share Posted August 17, 2011 AFAIK, you can copyright a melody but not a chord sequence...I suppose in the case of riffs that are based around chords, they would be considered to be melodies, whereas a chord sequence would be a lot more simplistic and lacking any specific rhythm.
