Hi gang, long time browser first time contributor. My name is Sean and I play bass in a pop punk/punk rock band from Scotland called Yeah Detroit. I have been playing bass for about 5 years now, I always thought of myself as more of a guitarist but now that the band are thinking about touring and releasing our first single, ive started to think of myself as a full time bassist!

I started off by playing a Cort GB34A and played with that for about 2 years, I also recorded our first CD with it, if you're a TOTAL TONE JUNKIE and are curious to hear how it sounded heres the soundcloud link http://snd.sc/eMu3h8 - not great and a fairly amateur recording but not bad for a first effort

I had some major problems with it though, we play in Drop C and it struggled to cope with the lack of tension which was a nightmare when playing live.

In our second recording which is more of a professional effort we managed to borrow a Stingray off of our producers friend, it was perfectly set up for Drop C and it ended up sounding fantastic on record, heres our second effort for the TOTAL TONE JUNKIES http://snd.sc/g7Hj3u

I have since upgraded my Cort to a Mexican made Fender Jazz, which although is not absolute high end beast which I one day desire but I got for a measly £250 and will do me for the next couple of years until I have paid of (at least some) of my uni debt. We recently recorded the single with it and im feeling really good about the tone, the final mixes arent back yet so its currently sounding a tad thin but with a bit of eq'ing and some tlc im 100% convinced its going to sound amazing, its copes great with the tension as well and has sounded spot on when we have been playing live recently. She looks a bit grey on the photo but shes actually an amazing Sky Blue colour.

AMP WISE - I currently have NOTHING but having been saving up for a bit now looking for the right deal and the reason for my registration is because I have found a deal on Basschat that I feel is great value, I have always loved the ampeg sound so hopefully I get a reply soon and can have my touring rig nearly complete. We wont be taking off for a full UK tour till April so I still have a bit of time to get a cab :)

I apologise for the essay I probably wont contribute too much because im a bit of a novice but im sure ill popping up from time to time.

Cheers
Sean

Hello from Canada.

I'm new here too and also wanted to jump in and make contact. And I've just listened to your tunes...great stuff indeed! Your band has a really polished and clean, punchy sound. And some very lovely basslines going on too :)!

I hope you find a wonderful new cab soon, and I send along best wishes for your upcoming tour and CD. Thanks so much for sharing the great tunes, and yes, what a pretty bass you have too.

Good luck to you, Sean.

Cheers from Kathleen.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the kind words about Yeah Detroit guys! Im from Kettlebridge - home of the Singing Kettle which some of you may of heard of! I lived in Glenrothes when I was growing up though, moved to Dundee when I went to University and then when it was time to move back home my mum had moved to Kettle - its great here so quiet and peaceful.

FOXDIE is a great band name by the way.

Got the final mix back for one of the singles btw - it will hopefully be up for stream on a few websites soon - SPOILER ALERT my bass tone sounds amazing, cant wait to show you guys!

Cheers
Sean

Ok...where abouts in the wonderful bustling metropolis of roundabouts in Glenrothes are you?

Luckily I'm an incomer, only been here 13 years!

If any of you lot are gigging over Perth way, let me know & I'll try & get along.

Oh, & welcome to BC. :)
THE ROUNDABOUT?....which one?....I think there is 53,496 roundabouts here....rough guestimate!
Im in Pitteuchar bud. in fact I'm playing the Dixon Arms on Sat night.

As I said I grew up here so the roundabouts don't bother me. there always seems to be someone in the petrol stations asking for directions though!
HA!....I'm in Pitteuchar as well!!....small world!

We emailed The Dixon Arms about a gig a wee while back...must ask the guitarist whatever happened about it!

That's what I meant! :)
I think they breed them there to take to other towns & cities.
