neepheid Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I might be able to pick up a second hand Hartke 3500 head for £140. Is this a good deal? Worth living on beans on toast for a few weeks? Quote
Johngh Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I'd snap it up straight away, mine is brilliant. Quote
Rich Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Damn right, I've got Brycebites' old one and it's mucking farvellous. Splendid amp, well worth it even if it means Tesco Value baked beans. Quote
kingforaday Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 agreed i've had one for about 6 years now and its been a very solid, reliable workhorse of an amp. Pretty versatile and easy to get a lot of very usable sounds out of it... and for that kind of money it'd be rude not to buy it! Quote
neepheid Posted March 14, 2008 Author Posted March 14, 2008 Going to check it out tomorrow afternoon, thanks for all the help everyone. Yum yum, beans. Quote
Subthumper Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Yeah go for it, had one for nine years now and its never once given any trouble. Just treat it to a nice quality tube for the pre amp, the ones they fit as standard dont do it justice. Find a nice mullard. Quote
paul, the Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 All the clips I've heard of these amps have been very trebly/aggressive (transient attack etc.). It's very professional sounding, but how do they perform for warmth and thump? Quote

You can fake the thumpy sound by dialling in the bass and taking all the treble off, but you're better off getting an Ashdown ABM if it's thump you're after. Quote
