ead
Hi people I'm looking at acquiring a PSU that will supply both 9v and 18v from a single supply "brick". Aside from the Dunlop Brick (expensive I feel) I've found the following using Google and wondered if anybody had used these or had experience of them from a quality/noise/practicality point of view: Tiger Multiple Power Supply Chord Power Block Guitar Man Multi PSU I note you can also buy a voltage double adapter to make 2 x 9v supplies into an 18v supply. Looking at the modest but varied type of pedals I believe that I'll need around 1 amp max of current but only if I turn everything on at once including the tuner! Any comments welcomed as it's not an area of expertise.
dudewheresmybass
have a look at the gator g bus does both 9 &18v (Has 8 x9v and 3x18v outs)
dannybuoy
I use a Johnnyshredfreak power supply and daisy chain, with a Diago 18v voltage doubler on one of the tips.

While they can, depending on your psu (I'm using the Johnny shredfreak / Diago) deliver 18v from a 9v source, it's very much at the expense of the other outs on your daisy chain. So I bought one of these. Guaranteed 12, 18, or 24v. Should arrive any day now. Until then it's batteries only for my Blowtorch.

This really is a step-up transformer and not a couple of 9v outlets joined together to give the illusion of 18v. It gets a little warm but not worryingly so. ead
Interesting...but presumably the law of physics still apply in that Energy in = Energy - a few losses e.g. heat. In other words you double the voltage but half the current that can be drawn by any given pedal.
dannybuoy
The Diago uses a charge pump circuit to generate 18v. Not sure what you mean by it getting the 18v at the expense of others on the chain? Sounds like the Godlyke does actually use a step up transformer instead, especially since they market the fact that the output is isolated. Where did you get it? dannybuoy
By the way, those 18v adaptor tips that convert two 9v sources to 18v only work if the two 9v sources are isolated, so it won't work with a Dunlop power brick.

You may well manage to get 18v by using one of those with some psu's and one effect pedal but if you try adding another effect into the chain it can't keep up with the demanded draw and everything gets underpowered. I had to get my Godlyke sent over from the States. I have to amend my comment earlier about it getting warm - I used it in anger the other day at a 3hr rehearsal and it never went above ambient. dannybuoy
Depends how many pedals you use I suppose - and digital ones use lots of power. I can run ten analogue pedals no problem with one at 18v and could probably do more but haven't tried.
