dmz
Folks, I'm thinking of getting the fingerboard of my fretless Jazz Bass coated. I remember someone saying that they got a neck of theirs coated by a certain Mr Shuker. Would he do such custom jobs ? Anybody had similar work done and if so would you recommend the luthier who did the work. Cheers

Maybe we are talking at cross-purposes. Jim sanded down the neck and applied lemon oil, plus made all the set-up adjustments and put some rotosound pressurewounds on. He's subsequently replaced the neck plate screws, re-magnetised one of the original pups and fitted a J-East Retro. It's feeling and sounding great now. It's a Japanese made Fender Jazz, sunburst and c.25 years old and was sold to me a couple of years a go by Richard Sinclair who bought in Japan whilst on tour. Never to be sold! wateroftyne
Ah... I'm talking about epoxy coating (and I think dmz is too?), as opposed to dressing the board.
MB1
FYI if you DIY http://www.systemthree.com/p_mirror_coat.asp It's available in the UK, 20 quid or so to memory. A bit of patience, some long hours rubbing out and polishing and you're there. uk source: http://www.boatbuildingsupplies.co.uk/
MB1. Could be a stupid question but is mirror coat mirror finish?
Jase
Just took a look at the System Three site, they offer pigment for their epoxy, that's got to be the next big epoxy thing, unless it's already being done, be good to get some trippy, experimental psychedelic boards I reckon

Chopthebass
Unless you use flats, I can't imaging any epoxy coating getting string marks. I've seen may a Pedulla with marks from rounds.
Jase
Mine marks, it's rock hard it's just super glue, about 6 tubes. The marking ( on my bass, don't know about HG Thor ) doesn't effect playability at all, it's weird, my board is looking a bit rough lately if you hold it in a certain light but it's still really smooth and even...odd! Jase
I really need to get my CIJ 62 done, I've only had it a few months and already it's wearing to the point that the odd note will choke rather than sustain or breath, think I'll keep using super glue, works well on my USA.
