Bloc Riff Nut
What would you reccomend when tuning this low on a 4-string? Am I better off using standard 5-string sets and discarding the G-strings or can I get away with tuning a standard 4-string set to B-E-A-D? Am I right in thinking a detuned 4-string set would need to be of a heavier gauge? Just wondered what you guys use/prefer!
chrismuzz
You'll need heavier gauges for sure, the B string is usually .125 or .130 so I reckon just buying 5 sets would be easier and maybe cheaper than singles. You'll need to set the truss rod and the intonation aswell
Conan
You may also need to get the nut cut a little wider and deeper...

noelk27
There can't be many, if any, standard strings that could be dropped that many steps and maintain output stability. Even those strings that are compression wound. The issue is mass. There are a few sets on the market that are designed for drop tuning, but, even still, you'll get much better, and stable, results using the bottom four strings from a five-string set. Bloc Riff Nut
Cheers guys. I need a 5-string set with a few adjustments to the nut and intonation/truss rod.
