s_u_y_*
I was just wondering if there are any compact lightweight poweramps in the market to go with my compact lightweight preamp? Edited March 13, 2008 by s_u_y_*

I'm really liking the Little Mark, but I'll be sure to get in touch if the situation changes.
Alien
A bit more info would help - What sort of wattage are you after, what's your budget etc. There's a lot of stuff out there. Andy
s_u_y_*
Something around 250-500W, something for a small-medium sized gig. Budget wise, anything up to a grand I guess. The overriding factor is the portability. Edited March 13, 2008 by s_u_y_*
Alien
How about one of these wrapped up in a metal box. Maybe something like this one in black anodised finish. Add a fused mains inlet and a speakon and you're there. Should be do-able for around £300. 500Watts in a 9x5x2 inch box with an all-up weight of not much more than 2 pounds. Andy

Alien
If you're serious then yes, I could do it. Let me get some definite prices and availability and I'll get back to you. Andy

All ya need to do is fit a lead to connect to the additional speaker cabinet. (A 5 min job, believe me.. then you are all set to go! £280 Infact, if you want to go the whole hog, these are actually designed to fint into a cabinet to make it active, but can be used standalone. Yeah, they're wicked! Slot straight in the back with 4 screws and plumb it in. The input is XLR bal/unbalanced compatible and instrument level as well, which is very cool! no need for a line driver or preamp. just a bit of EQ!!!!! Blimey I almost wanna buy myself another one!!! That solution sounds great. I would go for it, but the front panel looks like it would dig in my back while in my bag. Also Andy's solution seems more compact. Thanks anyways. s_u_y_*
I was saying to Andy via PM how I don't think there's anything in the market for portable poweramps. I mean, you have portable preamps in the form of your EBS MicroBass II's and Tech 21 Sanamps, etc. But no portable poweramps. Definately a clear gap in the market. The Funk
I've been thinking about this for a while. In the end I've decided to get an Eden WTX-260 instead of a power amp for my EBS MicroBass II. It'll be here next week. It's slightly larger than the first option mentioned above but overall it should be smaller than the EBS + power amp. Two things swayed me away... I like the Eden tone, but is too hi-fi for my current needs. Also more crucially, I didn't think it was cost effective to deal with my main concern, i.e. portability with power (rather than tone). In the end I went for a Mark Bass Little Mark II. I can carry it in my bag when I'm off to a gig via public transport... but I want to see if I can get an even more compact solution. I prefer the tone of my EBS, so I just end up using the MB LMII effectively as a poweramp. As a gigging musician with no car, portability is key. Can't wait until I finally learn to drive! I don't reckon there will be any problems with their gear. PM me if you're interested, and we can discuss specs and prices. Andy
Merton
I'm thinking of doing a similar thing with one of these and a little 2x8 cab for a portable low-volume practice combo. Will be a giggle and/or a complete disaster
Dood
Can you tell us what made you get rid of yours?
Ah yes, yes of course! I was using the module standalone with one of my Tech cabs as a practice rig and between fits of GAS for other gear and realising that my 'main' rig wasnt that heavy in the first place I think I ended up just using my Powersoft amp, which is a 2000W 1u D Class poweramp that weights around 8 kilos ;o) I never had the guts to cut a hole in the back of my lovely Tech cabs to mount the BK amp. Maybe if i DID then I would have been so daft and sold them! lol - But I am feeling the love with my new rig now, so I guess it was all part of the learning process. As it happens, I did think about gettinfg a module again, but when I found the Mark Bass F1.. which is also a very lightweight Dclass Amp.. there really wasnt a need! I keep my Powersoft in case I should need extra power.. but so far the F1 has proved itself capable into my 6x10. My ole BK module is now owned by a chap here on BC - I forget who (sorry). Now, I have an electronics background too and can confirm the modules are very well built. I understand that BK actually OEM their kit out to PA manufacturers / Installations. Very impressed.. UK based and not a lot of money either. The modules come ready to wire up and only a minimal understanding of electronics is required to make it work. Though you are working with mains electricity, so its worth having the thing checked over if you are unsure. Sorry if it's teaching to suck eggs etc.. I just don't want to see anyone hurt. - And boy have I seen some lethal elcetronic jobs in the past! Good luck, I think it will be a great project! It looks relatively straightforward but I will be getting my electrician qualified mate to check it over for me. Quite looking forward to this year - 2 little cab projects (one for bassmankev) and 2 P bass projects, plus an Omni15 at some point hopefully!
