Huggy and the Bears
Hi - Ive recently started using a EB2 for gigging with (love it). Need to put some new strings on soon and was after some advice as to what to get. Would like to achieve the cleanest sound I can (if thats possible). I'm a bit ignorant as to the difference between round-wound and flat-wound etc. Not sure what they were fitted with as OE so would really value any advice anyone has who has experience of playing one. Thanks in andvance!
evilLordJuju
Originally they would have had flats. You need a brand that doesn't have too much silk winding at the ball end - as there is not much space between the bridge and saddle. I use labella deep talkin' short scale flats that have no silk windings at all.
yorks5stringer
My first Bass was an 1962 EB2 and it had Flatwounds on it, probably the originals even though I got it in 1973! If you are not sure what Flatwounds are like, run your fingernail along the string, Flatwounds will feel smooth, Roundwounds will feel rough!
