paul, the Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 (edited) Kind of gimicky. Like throwing everything at it: quilt top, inlays, binding... Where's the purpose and conviction? I guess it's a couple extra quid invested to make it stand out. EDIT:- £500 Edited March 14, 2008 by paul, the Quote
jwbassman Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I think it looks pretty good - the detail in binding on the neck is a little OTT but overall not bad, I wonder how it plays Quote

ahpook Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 coffee table basses don't do much for me tbh, but each to their own. Quote
tauzero Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Mahogany neck? Looks rather more like maple to me... The overall, er, vibe is of a £100 bass tarted up with a quilt top, some binding and inlay, and a better bridge than standard Fender-type bent tin. If it was going for £150-£200, it would be reasonable if you liked the look of it. Quote
nick Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 (edited) Nice, but absolutely overpriced! Whoa I didn't see that headstock - tacky - awful! If someone was after something like this they'd be better off shopping around/waiting for an 80's Ibanez to crop up (which this bass alost imitates amongst others) http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1983_84/bass/p06.jpg, which will also at least hold it's value - if bought at realistic price. Cheaper & more tasteful. Edited March 14, 2008 by nick Quote
wotnwhy Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 i quite like it but it would be better without the neck inlay... and the price tag... Quote
Bassassin Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I quite like the ornate-ness & attention to detail, this sort of thing is not what fashion dictates that basses should look like - and that's +1 for me. I don't like the fact that the photos are so busy showing the fancy inlays that you can't tell with any certainty what shape it actually is! And no pictures of the back. At all. I'd also concur that this is not a £500 bass - £200 and under would be fine - this is a generic no-name, made in China/Indonesia/wherever cheapo under all the ostentatiousness. This has way more class, imo, and is significantly cheaper, shame about the crap pics, but these are stunning in the flesh: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200206165395 Jon. markytbass Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 They have one of the Richwood basses in a shop in Darlington. I havn't played it but I'm not keen on all the inlays etc. My question would be, is it £500 worth of bass or is it priced at £500 because of the add on's? (i.e a gold plated turd). The Aria on the other hand I have tried (well a 5 string version). Very nice bass well worth the money. Quote
