neepheid
Just won a beat up old Hagstrom on eBay in USA. Guy got back to me today saying that he didn't mean to have it set to international post (yet saw fit to quote $100 for postage) and warning me that it might cost more than $100 to ship. I hope he's not trying to screw extra money out of me just because I got the bass for a song. What's the going rate for sending a (svelte, shortscale) bass from USA to UK? Who are the best couriers to use to achieve this? Thanks for any help given.
john_the_bass
i had an acoustic bass shipped in a hardcase and the original shipping box with USPS for $70 which is what I was charged. The actual shipping cost was about $98. My stingray (in hardcase) also cost roughly the same to ship with USPS. thedontcarebear
$100 sounds okay.
stingrayfan
USPS is the cheapest ($70-100) but you WILL get stung for import tax and VAT (add 20% to purchase and shipping price). It will arrive via Parceforce who will ask for payment before they release it.
Happy Jack
Is it in a hard case? If not, most Hags had a bolt-on neck - ask him to unbolt it and he should save a packet (sorry) on the postage.

gypsymoth
go to www.usps.com and plug in the info, you'll get the number. $100 sounds OK to me, but I don't ship big stuff to the UK. USPS is my preferred carrier for US deliveries.
