WalMan
So I have just acquired a set of Roland PK5 bass pedals, or rather a midi controller. I plan to use them to fire Moog Taurus samples I have in IK Sampletank/SampleMoog on the laptop, but that may turn out to be a bit of a faff live. It has been suggested that a Korg Microsampler might do the trick, but does anyone have any other good ideas for a good hardware midi sound source? KevB
I found an old Roland JV1080 to use with mine. Found it on eBay and decided on it because it had been upgraded with extra sound cards, one of which was a vintage synths card. This has several variant Moog bass patches on it and the thing I like about these old units is that they are pretty robust (though I have mine in a 2U flight case). They are fairly sophisticatedin that a number of patches can be mixed together to create a 'super patch' which in Roland speak is called a 'performance'. The 1080 allows up to 16 separate parts to be merged into a performance and each of the 16 parts can be edited in terms of pitch, volume, stereo placement etc. The JV series got superceded by another series so they can be picked up quite cheap. Some of the additional sound cards can be a bit difficult to get hold of but they do come up on ebay fairly often. Vintage synth, keyboards of 60's and 70's and Orchestral are excellent and have enough patches between them for most applications. The 1080 can accommodate up to 4 extra cards but has a reasonable selection of patches on the unit itself. One on ebay with the vintage synths card installed: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/roland-jv1080-fu...=item415ca8f3c6 Or try to pick up a cheaper 1080 and then get the card separately, again the vintage synth card available on ebay at present; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roland-SR-JV80-0...=item2567188137 Edited August 31, 2011 by KevB
