charic Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Can anyone recommend some instrumental tracks for listening: One I just found is: Everything Fads To Gray (by Sonata Arctica) Quote
Happy Jack Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Sylvia by Focus. Great bass line, which only makes sense if played as part of the song. Quote

Truckstop Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) Anything by Mogwai. But 'Kids Will Be Skeletons', 'Whitenoise' and 'Secret Pint' are my favourites. Other Mogwai songs have vocals, but very few and they're often distorted beyond belief via vocoders and delays. Sigur Ros is also a good shout. The '()' album is great. Unfortunately none of the songs have titles, so #4 and #6 are my favourites. I assumed you're talking about modern bands that make a point of being instrumental because otherwise I could name a hundred classical and jazz numbers! edit: Oh, and "Apache". bartelby Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 If you mean stuff written to be instrumental, rather than a song with the vocals stripped out, then anything by: Red Sparowes God Is An Astronaut Zombi Earth I also highly recommend joegarcia's band ANTA Quote

bassatnight Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I always loved Simple Minds 'Someone up there likes you' from the 1982 album New Gold Dream. Also theme for great cities From earlier minds (belting bass) My fav is 'Jean walks through fresh fields' by China Crisis from memory it's on the Difficult Shapes album. You can't beat a brassy synth and a bass. Quote
flyfisher Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) I'm liking the Focus suggestions. Another example: (This clip cuts to the bass chase, but the whole track is worth a listen) Edited August 31, 2011 by flyfisher Quote

Mr H Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Mike Watt on the bass. Also the fantastic Mr Nels Cline on guitar. And it would now be unfair not to mention Stephen Perkins on drums and Willie Waldman on trumpet. Quote
