Motocross_nick
If its only new bass players that have come to light in the 00ies, then my vote would be for Chris Wolstenholme (if thats how you spell it haha)

allighatt0r
Fat Mike from NOFX. Definitely... Although he's probably a 90s as well... Damn and blast... *thinks.....*
Bassassin
Chancellor, James, Zender, Myung were all 90s (Mike Dirnt's technically 80s!) - and I saw Muse supporting Skunk Anansie in 1999... Tricky decade so far, there have been some great new bands, but no bassist has yet made much of an impression on me. I was going to say Martin Mendez from Opeth - but he first recorded with them in '99. /Gives up. Jon.
allighatt0r
The (first) bassist from the Arctic Monkeys was not necessarily a stunningly technical bassist, but he did make some very good bass lines, and the Arctic Monkeys formed in 2002. Musky
Chancellor, James, Zender, Myung were all 90s (Mike Dirnt's technically 80s!) - and I saw Muse supporting Skunk Anansie in 1999... There don't really seem to have been any real bass heroes this decade - plenty of well regarded players that play in successful bands, but no-one that Joe Public would recognise as a stand out member of the band in the way Burnell or Flea were. Maybe it accounts why bass players seem to be a bit thinner on the ground now, judging by the ammount of 'bass player wanted' ads in the classifieds. stingrayfan
Michele Stodart from the Magic Numbers is a great player. Listen to "Undecided" on their most recent album, it's really clever. Apparently she only learned to play a few years ago. Edited March 15, 2008 by stingrayfan
barry44
carlos d of interpol is a solid bassist, i think his work on their first cd is really good. also whoever is playing bass at any given time in the shins always plays some nice lines Edited March 15, 2008 by barry44

LukeFRC
I remember seeing bloc party on later and getting very excited by the bassline to helicopter. At that stage it wasc doing something I hadn't thought you coul do on a bass. So bloc party's bass player.
Doddy
Bryan Beller-He did some great work in the '90's with 'Z',but has really kicked ass with Mike Keneally an Steve Vai over the last few years. Bryan's solo album 'View' is the best bassist-lead album for years and his column in 'Bass Player' is worth the price of the magazine.
