Rick Mayall (assuming its actually him playing bass in "bad news")

Martin Kemp (Eastenders) was the bass player with Spandau Ballet. Those of us over 30 will know this already but younger BCr's may not.

For the record, he has had 49 film and tv acting jobs whilst SB produced only 7 albums and was acting before he played bass. I guess that makes him an actor!!

Doesn't he have a murder conviction as well? Or am I confusing him with someone else?

That'd be Leslie Grantham who accidentally shot a taxi driver dead whilst trying to rob him when he was stationed in Germany. Late 60's/early 70's I think it was.

If I can just throw a slight tangent into this thread. I have found a Pixies parody by Chris Morris, brilliant extremely well observed both in lyrical style and sonic useage .
Its absolutely spot on! (audio only, unfortunately)

Highlight below for the lyrics. Not that they are offensive or anything. I just dont want to ruin the listen for you. But they are here for your perusal later if you want.

One, two, three
well my mother is a whore let me tell you more
my mother did something to me when I was twenty-three
she spilt a cup of tea all over my knee
I said mother, oh my god what have you done
she said nevermind son lets have some fun
your pantaloon is undone I can see you're well hung
and then she fiddled with my cords
and then she...
my mother gunned my weapon
this is the dawning of the age
of King Oedapus
King Oedapus I need a puss
my mothers just as good as any other
she drives me wild like a hyena gone manic
lets get Hispanic!
uh huh huh uh huh huh
me mama es un whor-a
uh huh huh uh huh huh
me Espanol is muy poor-a
ever since I've been at my mothers nipple, guess I've been a dipple
now I'm fully converted
I'm heavily perverted
like I wanna have sex with a mutant ibex
wanna whack my wand in the nearest pond
wanna stick my spear in a stingrays ear
now my mother got jealous
of my new bedfellas/ started picking an argument
she said son you're bent
so I said aaaah
she said don't want to cause offence but your making no sense
I said aaaah
she said don't want to cause friction but where's your diction
I said aaaah
she said express yourself another way we're ..... on the TA
so I shot her
as the blood spilled from her vest
she said son they'll be no more incest
I said I know mother thats why I killed ya
and your dying body for necrophila

Wasn't Rik the only one of the 4 who couldn't actually play an instrument?

Came as a flexi-disc (remember them?) free with an issue of Select magazine toward the end of 1992 I think. Think mine's in the loft at my folks house.

I always thought the lyric was "My Mother Gummed My Weapon".

Just read that Adam Clayton bit in work and burst out laughing....getting some serious glares now.

Time to hit the road I think.

Just finished reading a John Lennon biography, apparantly after the Beatles split up, Keith Richard stood in on bass for him with Clapton on lead for some televised gig he'd contracted to do. Mind you, I'd heard that Keef (allegedly) re-recorded a lot of Wyman's parts anyway.......so not really news that :)

Well, the court didn't think it was an accident.

That was "The Dirty Mac" put together for the "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus" - The Beatles were still going at this point.

Clapton, Lennon, Mitch Mitchell and Keef... with Ivry Gitlis on violin and Yoko wailing.

Some band!

Did a bit more digging on Keef's bass playing career, looks as if he did a fair bit of Exile on Main Street, probably because it was recorded in the basement of his chateau and he couldn't be a*sed waiting for Wyman to arrive!

The lovely Sarah-Jane Honeywell from cbeebies plays bass. I once saw her play a bit on Tikkabilla.

I can't find a picture or YouTube clip, so this is a picture of her not playing bass! :)

Me neither. Looking forward to the next episode now. Need to ask the kids when it is on and then get them out of the room :)
