Doctor J Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 (edited) You could get a humbucking pickup, most pickup manufacturers make them. Some are bonded into the case though, so you may not able able to swap. If you were feeling adventurous you could try a Lace pickup for you noiseless needs. As for wiring, some are four conductor (in which case you just solder two wires together yourself) and some are two conductor (hard wired in series inside the pickup). It's no harder to wire in, you're soldering two wires into your pre in both cases. Edited September 5, 2011 by Doctor J Quote
gilmour Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 The DiMarzio ultra Jazz are noiseless. AFAIK they're basically wired like a split coil humbucker, and sound really good on it too. I'm sure there are other manufacturers who do the same. As for fitting it in your old pickup casing, it may be possible, but for that it'd be worth investigating just getting some pups custom made, someone like Chistoph Dolf at bass culture pickups (http://bassculture.de/) would do that sort of work, as I'm sure would many of the UK makers. Bottle Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Seymore Duncan do a hum-cancelling version or two of their Basslines Jazz pickup - Classic or Hot Stack versions depending on the type of output/style of playing you're looking for. They seem to be available for either Neck or Bridge-sized routs too. Wiring info here* HTH, Ian *Note that this is for a standard VVT Jazz-style control plate, so you would likely need to modify it for the J/MM arrangement you have - SD hum-cancelling coils come pre-wired in series, so ground one end (green wire) and take the other end (black wire) to the 'Hot' connection on the blend pot where the original jazz-pup was wired. ead Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Ancient thread resurrection... The pickups mentioned here all seem to have the longer casing in the bridge position. Are there any noiseless Jazz with the same size casings neck and bridge? If not would buying two of the appropriate size be the same thing? Quote
