sk8
I was originally looking for a precision with a jazz nack but was unsatisfied whith what was around. I contacted Mike Walsh at Purple Chili/Iceni Bass Guitars as i had experience of him building me a custom 5 (Build thread in here somewhere). I chatted with Mike and friday and agreed a build. I haven't actually specced the actual woods i want as i trust mike to meet my specification. It was Precision esque body Jazz neck and fenderish headstock 38mm Nut width Mable board I didn't want fancy woods as this is a workhorse so have opted for a plain black finish with a pickgaurd Precision pup at the neck and Jazz pup at the bridge Passive electronics probably vol, vol, tone Thats it. using the KISS principle i'm really excited about this bass as i loves me precision but believe this will give me that and more
sk8
Got off the phone with Mike, Neck is done bar final shaping and the body is done bar some minor contouring. Body has been CNC'd so neck pocket and pups holes are routed. Body is a sort of P Jazz hybrid. Its got the offset from the jazz although not as exagerated but more of the bulk of the P. Will have a Jazz Scratchplate and Bell. Body wood is idigbo. Not the greatest grain but Mike swears by it for tone plus as i've gone for a painted finish what it looks like doesn't matter! One peice body to. Coming together well, i'll see if i can get some pics

henry norton
Lookin' good, although your Precision-esque body is looking kind of Jazz-esque I think the body looks good just in the sealer too.
sk8
yeah, it is a bit more jazzy than precisiony!
gilmour
Love the way this bass is developing. Which one of Mike's body shapes is it? (I'm guessing groovemeister?)
sk8
I believe its based on the one he made for Norman Watt Roy not the groovemeister but i could be wrong!

sk8
Just got off the phone with mike. This should be done by next week Originally i was going to have the headstock blacked like the body but decided to leave natural after seeing the pictures. Mike is very pleased with the build and says the fretboard looks even better now its been laquared. Pups are made customs for my bass made by Wizard. Darkstrike
Don't blame you, that one doesn't need a matching headstock at all.

We were speaking about a custom build and Mike mentioned he can turn them round in 8-10 weeks at the moment!
