I tried the Zon at BassGear last week, twas lovely. Clarky Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 (edited) Did you by any chance vote 'Frequently' in my poll about drug taking Si? have a strong cup of coffee and you will see that your Jazz and Precision collection is the dogs doodahs! P's, the Zon is fine ... But single-cuts, just no! Edited September 8, 2011 by Clarky Quote
Sibob Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Ah my Fender's aren't going anywhere The Zon sounded exactly like a fretless should but I've no use for one really. Singlecuts.....they're my guilty pleasure, LOVE them lol Si Quote
Darkstrike Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 My word! That Zon is incredible looking! Quote

BigRedX Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Nothing silly about either of those, in fact IMO they're a bit ordinary looking. Quote

RhysP Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 If you refer to Zons as "Silly Basses" again I will have something to say about it...... Quote
longtimefred Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Zon looks quite cool, i would entertain one of those. The Fodera looks...well er mouldy is the only way i can describe it. Quote
sprocketflup Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011
Oh no.... I've started liking silly basses
..what, like Fenders? Quote
wateroftyne Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 (edited) Ah.. bless you, Si. You've hit that age. Give the coffee-table basses and chatting up twenty-somethings in nightclubs a miss, and restrict yourself to buying a few Hawaiian shirts and a 2-seater sports car. You'll be fine. JimBobTTD Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Fodera is yuck, but that Zon would look lush if you would just take the masking tape off the fingerboard! Quote
electric nate Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 The only thing i like about that zon is the headstock, The rest of it is horrid, especially the body contour where the laminate has been cut away. The fodera would at least make a good coffee table. Being singlecut means more surface to rest mugs and magazines on! Quote
Chris2112 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 Nothing silly about a good bass, and these are as good as they get! Proper handmade quality, instead of the usual J and P clones... 4 string singlecuts are also a very good thing! Quote

I remember one bloke on Talkbass telling a story about how he went to a pawn shop and was looking at a Corvette which was priced up really cheap, so he sat down to play it. When he was playing it, he realised the bass reeked of sh*t and was deeply unpleasant to be around. He pressed the store about it and it turned out the bloke who had owned it had parted with it on bad terms. Whether or not bailiffs took it or he had to begrudingly trade it in, he didn't want to let go of it so he 'soiled' the bass by sticking the top horn up his arse! With the wood being 'open pore' the vile arse miasma soaked into the wood and the shop had tried everything to get rid of the smell without success! As you can imagine, that thread was quite funny. Single cuts are disgusting, Precision and Jazzes are the pitbulls plums but that Zon is quite nice. it's just missing a few pieces of metal for me (the frets in case any one gets confused) Quote

I saw some on an exotic wood website - not unaffordable from what I could see - I've asked for a quote for a fretboard. Apparently a very dense wood which makes a fine board... Quote

I believe it's similar to ebony in terms of sound and toughness. Quote
