de-fret of a phenolic fingerboard

Has anyone here had a de-fret done on a bass with a phenolic fingerboard?

I'm rather worried about the 30 odd year old resin cracking on my bass. It's either a de-fret (which I'd prefer) or a re-fret in a couple of years so it needs some work whatever I do.
I'll be taking my bass in to the Gallery for their opinion, but in the meantime any info' from those who have had work of this nature done would be good.

Thanks
Thomas
